It's shared in the interest of historical preservation, education and continuation of a great legacy.
This image was made in VB 6.1, which does not support 3D hardware acceleration, but it's not required.
** VMware **
Before install VM tools (VM drivers) set the VM hardware compatibility to "Workstation 10" (no directx 10, etc)
Menu -> VM -> Manage -> Change hardware compatibility...
#ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

Eclipse is setup to use CTRL Shift Z for redo, instead of the Windows CTRL Y, to change it back, look in the windows → preference and search for key, then redo, and set it to CTRL Y.
Eclipse is the default IDE, but you can use anything that can run in Windows XP and can edit code and launch a makefile.

To work around the problem, you can disable everything except C/C++ ussage.

Subject: Windows Hyper-V must be fully disabled!
Windows Hyper-V, if it's not fully turned off will conflict with other virtualization software (Virtual Box or VMWare).
It will run very slowly, the log will have something like:
0:00:02.203716 NEM: NEMR3Init: Snail execution mode is active!
00:00:02.203716 NEM: Note! VirtualBox is not able to run at its full potential in this execution mode.
00:00:02.203716 NEM: To see VirtualBox run at max speed you need to disable all Windows features
00:00:02.203717 NEM: making use of Hyper-V. That is a moving target, so google how and carefully
00:00:02.203717 NEM: consider the consequences of disabling these features.

Subject: VMWare antiviruslivecd boot HOWTO
Download the latest ISO from https://sourceforge.net/projects/antiviruslivecd/files/
Clone VM first!!!
Instructions below are for this cloned VM.
In VM settings, options tab, General, set VM to Win10 x64.
Click Upgrade this VM from side/info panel.
In VM settings, options tab, Advanced, select UEFI leave "enable secure boot" unticked.
Click CD/DVD, select the iso file and boot as normal.
If it fails to boot because of the buslogic SCSI adaptor, in the .vmx file add this line:
scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic"
To transfer the log file, insert a physical USB drive/pen and give the VM access to it, it can be formated NTFS, FAT etc.
You may have to start the VM to do this, then reboot it.
Tips on using antiviruslivecd:
change the root password to root
login as root/root
type helpme to see commands
type antivir
enter 2 (to update AntiVirus DB)
enter 1 (to start AV scan)
enter 2 (log only to /var/log/clamav.log)
it'll scan, leave it for a few hours!
copy log file to USB, ie:
mountall
ls /media/disk/sdb1 (should output what is in your USB - if not use dmesg, lsusb etc)
cp /var/log/clamav.log /media/disk/sdb1
Shutdown VM or just click power off
Your USB should reconnect to your computer with the log file.
Open it, any virus found will register as: Win.***
Delete the cloned VM, manage, delete from disk
Subject: FIX: Gimp long loading time
This may have caused gimp to take a very long time to start up.
The fix as described here (Solution 2):
https://9to5answer.com/gimp-stuck-on-quot-loading-data-files-fonts-quot
Go into Preferences -> Folders -> Fonts and delete all folders listed there.
VMWare:
Before install VM tools (VM drivers) set the VM hardware compatibility to "Workstation 10" (no directx 10, etc)
Menu -> VM -> Manage -> Change hardware compatibility...
